ASBO A Novel of extreme terror By Iain Rob Wright Book Review

By Iain Rob Wright

 Blurb

-- 70,000 word page-turner / thriller novel
-- Features additional, bonus spin-off story, 'When Frankie met...'
-- Latest novel by top selling horror and thriller author, Iain Rob Wright

YOUR FEAR IS THEIR ENTERTAINMENT...
Andrew’s life is one of bored contentedness: a teenage daughter, a faithful wife, and a middle-class job. He even has a Mercedes. His life is without drama, and the comfort of middle-age is setting in.

That all changes when he refuses to buy a pack of cigarettes for the local gang of youths. Led by the emotionally unstable, and sadistic, Frankie, the gang target Andrew and his family in an escalating campaign of terror and violence that threatens their very lives. It isn’t long before Andrew starts to wish that he’d just brought those damn cigarettes.

A shocking horrific read, with no vampires, zombies, aliens or monsters. The only monsters are human-kind...at its worst.
Iain has certainly done his homework with creating a sick soul like Frankie as the cruel character and his brother Peter who with brilliant character development from Iain we watch as he starts to realize his brother one sick puppy...but does he have the guts to go against his own brother....?

Iain has brought terror and depravity on his main character Andrew a normal guy with a wife and a lovely daughter he would do anything for.
Today's Britain is sadly not far from the truth that could be found in this book;  this in itself makes it even more frightening as it could happen to anyone of us at anytime. One wrong totally innocent glance at a neighborhood lout could unleash all sorts of terror on yourself and your family. How often have you been back chatted by a Jack the lad kid in the street and Im sure you made a simple remark back; never in a million years expecting to be terrorized, beaten and worse.
This is an excellent well written character driven read resulting from an innocent man refusing to buy a cocky teen some ciggies.
Iain has shown both sides making the reader think and you almost...I said...almost....feel sorry for Frankie. Its another fantastic fast paced read from Iain and even though there were no zombies I still found this book quite horrific and frightening; probably because its so close to home and could easily be any one of us.

The Final Winter by Iain Rob Wright Book Review

The Final Winter
by Iain Rob Wright

Blurb
THE SNOW WAS JUST THE START...

On the night it begins snowing in every country of the world, an ordinary group of people gather at a rundown English pub. At first they assume the weather is just a random occurrence and nothing to worry about - but as the night goes on, weirder things happen, and they start to realise that something far more sinister is at hand. Something that none of them could ever have imagined.

By the end of the night, not everyone will make it, and those that do will wish they hadn’t.

This is the 4th book Ive read from Iain Rob Wright now and Im completely hooked on his style of compelling horror writing. I didn't know what to expect with The last Winter as the blurb doesn't give much away which made it even more intriguing...was it going to be a murder mystery, paranormal, sci-fi, we don't know till approx a third into the book and even then were not entirely sure what happening.
This for me kept me on the edge of my seat and made this "chilling" (Pun intended) heart pounding read.
Again with all Iain's characters they are recognizable as people you can relate to; whether you like them or not. I found myself relating to a few of the characters; be it completely hating a few or completely rooting for another.
I loved how we meet the characters Damian and Harry for the first time from the book Savage and get to know a bit more about their backgrounds.

This is a completely unique read Ive never read a horror like it; as we meet the characters working in a supermarket, video shop and a public house called The Trumpet; so to say they all eventually endup at this very British pub as the plot gets stranger and stranger...no really it does!
The Winter cold and snowfall gets worse and colder and the freak extreme weather is freezing around them but what is causing this; it seems to be based around just one of the characters but a few of the characters are not who they seem either.
This read has quite a few facets to it with the temperature dropping dangerously fast, visibility next to nothing and no hope of rescue; your not entirely sure where its going...genius!
This is a fantastic character driven plotline; I honestly cant tell you much as its one of those books that I will give too much away and I hate spoilers; other than it could be the end of the world by freezing, murder, fire, disintegration or just simply the end....are heaven and hell working together. This was yet another amazing compelling read from Iain; his writing vivid and spine-tingling with a good amount of gore for those that love the more bloody horror.
Its a fast paced apocalyptic even with an incredible twist!

Plus dont forget you also get another fab read as a extra bonus stand alone publication The Peeling of Samual Lloyd Collins.

Savage by Iain Rob Wright Book Review

by Iain Rob Wright

Blurb
SOMETIMES BEING ALONE IS BETTER…
The world has crumbled and the dead walk the earth, but all is not lost, yet. A group of survivors seek salvation at an abandoned pier where the dead can’t get them.

But the dead are not the only threat.

The people on the pier are not the only group of survivors. There are others out there: bigger, nastier groups. And one just turned up right on the doorstep…

The world may have changed, but people haven’t.

I have just read Ravage the preceding book to this one but you can still jump straight in and read this book without having to know what happened before. Although Im really happy to see Anna and Rene again I would have loved to have known how they got here and what happened to the rest of the group they were with.
According to other reviewers this book has the highest overlap of characters from other books which makes it quite exciting as you really get to know the characters.
I love the group on the pier, its a good mix of different people and Ive really taken to Poppy a typical headstrong young girl latching onto Garfield; a tough ginger headed guy whose not afraid to take charge and head off with the foraging parties. He also has a huge soft spot for Poppy after saving her life. Garfield is a likable, believable guy and your rooting for him throughout this read with brilliant character development from Iain again.

One of the foraging missions will cause trouble however as they return with a wounded; but wanted man that has escaped from a large powerful group out at sea. The psychotic power hungry boss of this group Samuel Raymeady decides that their refusal to just hand him over means war; resulting in catastrophic results to the closely knit group on the pier. A furious Anna and Rene take matters in their own hands and go to face him....never a good move!

Roman/Damian (from Final Winter) works for Samuel and is another force to be reckoned with but whose side is he on?

This book proves its not always the zombies you need to look out for and there is more about the sour end of human nature than about the zombies in this book with Sally and Samuel around.
A good author is never scared to kill off favorite characters and there are some shocking and sad moments throughout this read.
I have to say, we as the reader feel everything through the authors highly descriptive text and it feels that we are right there next to that character; good or bad. So with sadness comes some good with another fantastic ending and another highly recommended read!
