KitSound Clash On-Ear Headphones with In-Line Mic Review

Heya Gadgetaholics Ive a really fab review for you today and something Ive been using since it arrived. KitSound's gorgeous Clash headphones. As you guys probably know Ive been using my beautiful Bassbuds with their incredible sound. However my ears have begun to get a bit sensitive and achey with any inner ear earphones or buds. So when KitSound kindly asked if I would like to review their new Clash On-Ear Headphones it was perfect timing.

Packaging
The KitSound Clash arrived in a brightly coloured coordinating red and black box with a quirky transparent side for sneakpeek'n at the headphones inside.

Description
KitSound Clash On-Ear headphones are stylish, lightweight and compact, there are 3 colours of a retro 2 tone design. Red and black, Black and lime and White and cobalt blue. I was excited to find I received the Red and black the colours I would have chosen woohoo.

These Clash headphones sit over the ear and offer clear sound, rich bass and are compatible with most smart phones, MP3 players and tablets, PC's and laptops.

Measurements
18cm high by 14.5cm width.
The headband is adjustable from 18cm on its smallest setting up to a maximum of 21cm in length (crown of the head to the bottom of earcup, see diagram).
The square Earcups are approximately 6.5cm x 6.5cm,
Removable cable is 1.2m long,
The inline mic is 19cm down from the earcup.

Specifications for those that love more techy bits.
  • Frequency response; 20Hz-20Khz,
  • Sensitivity; 103.2 dB/1mW,
  • Drivers; 40mm,
  • Impedance; 40 ohms.

The Headband has an odd holey textured PU leather but its really supersoft.
It has a squish-able depth of at least 1cm so it really is super comfy on your head.

The underside of the headband is in a smooth black PU leather. I must admit I would have liked the red to be the same; not the holey texture. But they still look amazing.

The earpads are square in shape with a red plastic outer case.

They have added a really pretty red metallic square inner accent which breaks up the plain red plastic. A lovely bit of bling for the girlies!
The KitSound logo is then printed on the adjustable slider clip.

The ear pads have the most gorgeous super soft black PU leather for your ears.

The cups also fold in and out for comfort too and you can see here how much padding you have on your ears; its quite luxurious.

Out of both earcups comes the headphones own braided wiring in this quirky black and white fabric.

I really love The Clash Logo pressed into the metal panels on each earpad, it gives a lovely modern feel and I love The Clash music...perfect. You can also see the Left L embossed onto the red plastic so you know which way to wear your stereo headphones.

The Left hand earcup has the cable connector hole for your devices. The 3.5 jacks cable is a lovely longer length of 1.2m long. It also offers an inline microphone of matching red plastic, allowing you to answer calls quickly and easily.

Plus a really useful plastic red mute button when you need to talk to someone or answer the door etc.

Use
Im actually really excited about reviewing these for you guys; as Ive recently been sent some audio books to review and was worried about getting sore ears from my inner earbuds or having to keep keeping my other half awake at night having to listen to my books with me.

First of all I absolutely love the red and how its coordinated with my phone; they look stunning together.
My photos are showing you The Clash's true colour. I haven't added any saturation or vibrancy in Photoshop, they really are this bright. But annoyingly they could look like they have got a bit faded in the sun as they have that orangey-reddy hue to them.
I wish it had been a slightly richer red, like my phone case. But I still love this red its really cheerful and it makes you feel happy.

The longer jack cable connects easily into my phone and this is also a lovely red fabric.

They are lightweight and quite compact in your hands and the ear-pads really are supersoft and so comfy to wear. The headband holds them firmly against your ears without any worry of them falling off, even if you lean over or start boogieing round the room to the music..erm...like...me!

It doesn't come with noise...reduction but it really does cut out most background noise as it fits so well over my ears. You pay a fortune for background sound cutout headphones and these do it naturally through its own great padding.
BTW Im not holding them on its just comfortable sitting like this!

Opinion
The new Clash headphones not only look funky and modern but have fantastic sound quality. I cannot stress enough how comfy these are especially when laying in bed. Ive had no ear-ache often associated with headphones; even whilst wearing glasses; just great sound...what more can a girl want...okay apart from diamonds, designer bags and shoes....lol!
Ive used them almost everyday since these arrived and I love them, Ive used them on on my main PC for gaming so I don't disturb my other half and it gave me brilliant sound. Those zombies now sound like they are right behind me...eeep! Ive mainly used them on my tablet so I can catchup on my favorite Utube bloggers and on my phone so I can listen to my music. They are just perfect for me. Im a bit of a bass baby and I always like to  crank-it up and this was no exception. The sound had no distortion as I turned it up it high and they still sounded great. My other half couldn't hear anything from 2 feet away and I had my volume just over half.
I'm no sound aficionado but it has lovely clarity, crisp notes and goooorgeous basss. I'm a really Happy Ducky.

These are affordable fun coloured headphones for those that want good sound on a budget..and good looks too. They are easy to use non-techy headphones for those who don't want the fuss of bluetooth and are happy to be wired to your phone or mp3 player, tablet or PC etc.
My other half has pinched them a few times for his metal detector too.
Highly recommend gorgeous looking headphones.

The Prediction - Nobody knows the day they'll die till now by Darren Sugrue, Book review

Nobody knows the day they'll die till now.
    By Darren Sugrue

Oh my goodness, when Darren contacted me to ask if I would like to review his book, I almost said no as it didn't seem "my" type of genre. Then after reading his blurb, I was so intrigued that I just had to read this book....and am so glad I did.
Sorry to all you zombie-holics today as it is one book review that doesn't contain rotting corpses trying to hunt you down and eat you.
This is such a unique plot and fantastic storyline so please just take a break from zombies to read this you wont be disappointed I promise.

We are all a bit fascinated in the possibility of knowing the day we will die; some of you will say no way I'd never want to know; others of you will say yes please as I can live my life to the full. There are so many different ways at looking at this.
If I was offered the answer in an envelope, it would burn a hole in my drawer and I would have to peek...what would you do?

Anyway on with my review its so exciting!

    Blurb
Nobody knows the day they’ll die... until now.

Mathematical genius Daniel Geller has developed a formula to predict a person’s date of death, only to have it rejected by the faculty at Trinity College. Totally devastated, he turns his back on the world he once loved.

Twelve years on, Daniel’s old professor John Redmond and his wife are coming to terms with the death of their ten-year-old son. Could Daniel's formula have predicated his death? Revisiting the thesis, the professor makes an astonishing discovery: out of the five fellow students whom Daniel used the formula on, one of them died on the exact date predicted by Daniel.
One more is due to die in six days: Daniel’s ex-lover Grace.
The professor draws Daniel back into the world of mathematics where he is suddenly faced with the dilemma of allowing someone he once loved to die to be one step closer to proving his thesis and enjoying a prestige he once dreamed of…
Set in the vibrant cities of Dublin and Amsterdam, The Prediction is a powerful story about coping with shattered dreams, the loss of a loved one, and an illustration of just how unpredictable the human heart can be.

I have just finished The Prediction after yet ANOTHER sleepless night; I just couldn't put it down. Ive been lucky as Ive enjoyed some really fab reads in the last few months.
But this one was a complete surprise in many ways. I thought I knew what the story was going to be about, how it would play out, even to how it may end. WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!
This is Darren's debut novel which is so hard to believe as he is an excellent writer who has created some great characters and I knew from the first page I was going to enjoy this book.

Daniel Geller PHD student created a mathematical formula to predict people's death dates. It was rejected and he couldn't continue with the PHD; devastated he split with Grace his girlfriend and started a new life.
12 years later Daniel is a crane operator when John Redmond his old professor contacts him wanting him to continue with his thesis; but he actually has his own agenda concerning his wife surrounding the death of their child.
We are actually following 2 separate but engaging plot lines in 2 cities Amsterdam and Dublin; which keeps the read exciting without too much jumping around. The first and main storyline is of David who urgently has to travel to Amsterdam to find Grace his ex girlfriend as her death date is due and he has to try and save her. Despite the fact he may lose his PHD if she lives...his lifes work. Grace however has her own personal problems shes trying to cope with. The second plotline is back in Dublin of John and his wife who are desperately coping with their individual personal grief.

These plots eventually blend beautifully and the writer obviously knows Amsterdam well; as you get a good feel for the city through his descriptive writing. This whole story is well defined with realistic believable characters.

The ending twist was just genius, completely unforeseen and certainly something I was not expecting; just brilliant.
Overall whatever genre you enjoy reading just make a change today as I feel this is one of the few books anyone would enjoy no matter whether you are a romantic, thriller, horror or sci-fi reader. Its unique, compelling novel with vivid character detailing. A must have read for almost anyone.

NOTE; I read a note from one of the reviewers of this book who warned those that had suffered a loss of a child may find this book distressing to read as its mentioned alot. However the advice offered within the actual storyline, I feel would help those who are grieving. Its written compassionately, thoughtfully and certainly wouldnt offend.

I have to say you would never guess this was Darren's first novel and I cant wait to read more from this talented author.  This is why I do book reviews to find a fantastic read like this, to find the next best seller or best film, I loved it.

The ZBand vibrating silent alarm wristband Review

Hello you gadgetaholics, hope you have been enjoying this Summer sun this week. Today I've got another fantastic review for you and something quite unique.
    • Are you fed up with being woken with a start every morning to a shrilling alarm clock....?
    • Are you deaf or hard of hearing?
    • Does your alarm clock wake up your baby or young child?
    • Does your partner moan when they are woken up by your alarm and they don't need to get up at the sametime? Well tough your, up their up :-)
If its yes to any of the above you need to checkout the amazing ZBand. I love wearable technology as its usually something that's going to make a real difference in our lives and this is no exception.

The ZBand is the worlds first silent alarm vibrating wristband for Android!
A really simple idea of a silent alarm wristband that gives you a gentle awakening without disturbing those around you....simples!

Read on for my full photoloaded review...yep really photoloaded!

I was lucky enough to be approached by Paul Griffin one of the founders of ZBand and asked if Id be interested in reviewing one for you guys. I couldn't wait as I have several factors why I personally really wanted to try this.
I've recently been suffering with some hearing loss and often dont hear my own alarmclock so it ends up waking up my other half; who in turn ends up having to wake me up to turn off my alarm...eeep sorry huny!
Plus I need regular medication reminders during the day as Im often late with some of my medication or even worse forget to take it. So the ZBand could have been made for me.
Paul Griffen and Declan Leonard are both from Ireland and are the founders of this genius idea. Paul never liked noisy alarm clocks and in 2009 came up with this idea for the silent alarm.

    Packaging
My ZBand arrived only a few days later directly from Ireland. Inside you get a gorgeous presentation gift box made of black card. It really makes you feel special.

Inside my ZBand sits with an excellent quality concertina user leaflet.

    Description
The ZBand is a watch style vibrating wristband you wear it...er...on your wrist...der. It comes in a choice of black or white and I chose black as it felt more discreet. To use your ZBand you will also need to be able to download an android or windows app and have Bluetooth to be able to communicate with your new ZBand.

The ZBand is divided into 2 main parts. A main black rubberised wristband; which looks and feels like a sports watch and a removable vibrating rechargeable unit which will connect via an app to your smartphone etc.

The wrist strap is 25cm long and 2cm wide and fits easily around your wrist and attaches via snap holes which you press the 2 plastic studs through the holes at the size to fit your wrist. Giving you a comfortable fit just like a normal watch.

The largest wrist size is 23cm and the smallest is a child size of approx 19cm in diameter.
Once on you have a nice ZBand embossed logo on the strap.

The vibrating unit is only 3.5cm long and 2.5cm wide and pops out of the wristband so you can charge it up via USB. On the top of the unit is a transparent Z which lights up to show you what its doing. Red while charging and green while you are setting your alarms.

The vibration unit is a slightly curved rectangle which sits comfortably over your wrist. This rechargeable unit uses any micro USB cable and ONLY takes about 30 mins to charge which is amazing and wait...it for it lasts over 10 days.

    Charging
Zband doesn't come with a charging cable as it keeps their costs right down for us as a buyer. Plus how many USB cables do you need. Most of us have more than one and generally most smart phones come with a micro USB.

I love the bright red LED to show you when its charging its a nice touch, reminds me of Zorro from the 80's...er...70's...maybe Im showing my age now.

Using my smartphone cable I charged my new ZBand for the first time and even though it turned off after 40 mins to say it was charged, I always leave a new product on charge for a little longer. You know how I nag you all about this subject; NEVER be tempted to use your new device before a first FULL charge...because you may never get a full charge ever again...don't be tempted...step away from your ZBand until its cooked! Once charged this little vibration unit snaps easily and firmly back into the wrist strap.

Who needs to checkout the ZBand
    Apart from everyone I mean;
    • Couples getting up at different times,
    • Parents with young children and babies sleeping in the same room or nearby,
    • Hard of hearing and the deaf,
    • People sharing rooms in dorms, hostels,
    • Those needing frequent meeting and appointment reminders,
    • Those needing medication reminders,
    • Perfect gift for the early riser.

    ZBand Application
Next download ZBand app from Google play, for Android or for Windows go to zband.biz ; even if you have an Apple iphone you can still use this application but only on your PC or laptop.
This now allows you to set up all your alarms and even the vibration strength.

Next you need to pair up the ZBand to your Smartphone or computer you do need Bluetooth. I chose my Samsung S4 of course..everything goes on this lol. Once you turn on your bluetooth it asks you to pop in a pin number 1234 or 0000. As soon as I'd entered the last number it had found the ZBand...fantastic it was so fast.

Now I'm all connected I'm ready to rock and roll....nope....vibrate!
The app is so simple it offers you 3 tabs for your alarm set up page, your snooze times and vibration strength.
The main page allows you set up all your alarms, I decided to set up times throughout a whole day with a mix of using my snooze button to really test this baby out.

While setting up your alarms your ZBand will flash a green LED to show you that you have 90 seconds to set them up then it will it will turn off. But don't worry you can soon just press the Z button again to get more time.

You can even choose the vibration strength from a light to heavy sleeper. Some of you will need just a little tickle others will need a full blown earthquake on your wrist...but its all your personal choice.

To turn off your alarm for the day just press and hold the Z button for a few seconds. If you want to grab a snooze...who doesnt....just press once quickly. It'll vibrate a few times to say it understands and wake you with a cuppa and breakfast...oh...wait...that's not my ZBand...sigh :-)

    The download application for windows.

I have also set it up on my PC so I could tell you it all works perfectly on there too. I even bought a Bluetooth dongle especially as I realized my PC didn't have Bluetooth; as Ive always used any bluetooth products on my smartphone and tablet.
The PC Windows application downloaded easily onto my PC and it paired up quickly. The screen offers a similar one to the mobile app with identical options.
It was just as easy as the Google apps to use.

    Using my ZBand
I love this larger style watch and even though I've super skinny wrists I still prefer my watches more chunky just like this.
Once you've set the alarms you don't need your phone or PC, the Zband does the rest and will go off ontime everytime. When I say ontime...I have found it is about 30 seconds or less late; this is not a problem to me at all.
What a difference being woken up by vibration is so much gentler on the psyche; than a shrilling alarm clock bolting you abruptly awake. You start the day happier, more relaxed and your not disturbing anyone around you.
My other half is getting to stay asleep a bit longer and I'm not waking the dog.

Its the only piece of jewellery I put on at night instead of taking off.
You can see here my jewellery Ive taken off for the day and my Zband ready to go on for the night-time.

However I've also been using this through the day to remind me to take some medication its been invaluable. I often forget or work through my med time and this has been a fantastic reminder.

Hint: I hope ZBand start to bring out different designed straps or even interchangeable ones for those of us who wear them through the day; its a fantastic idea and product.

    Opinion
I have to say I've seen a few other vibrating units for the deaf when I used to work as a nurse and they looked national health and this is exactly what's been needed for the deaf and hard of hearing. This ZBand looks modern, its funky and just fun to use and best of all it does what it says on the box. Its got no frills, bells or whistles, no added torch, no gimiky addons just a brilliant vibrating time piece.
Its kept costs right down allowing this to be accessible to most if us, the NHS ones were extremely expensive even with discounts.

The app is simple to setup and use and the ZBand responds fast and hasn't let me down yet. Set daily, weekly, alarms. For me I've been using it as my daily alarm, I've my vibrations set for just a quarter of the way and its plenty enough to wake me up. It will go up to super strong vibes but that woke me with too much of a jolt lol; this would be perfect for those who are heavy sleepers. But I think you would then need to charge your ZBand up a bit more often. The gentler more subtle vibes wakes me easily, slowly and far more naturally. It sets you up better for the day.

I highly recommend this for anyone who has young children or babies in the same room or you share a dorm room as well as those with hearing problems. Perfect as reminders for appointments or meetings. The vibrations won't be seen or noticed or heard by anyone just you. So it can go off in middle of a meeting and only you will know. Even if you just use it to wake you gently and naturally into your day, its worth every penny. This has to be the ideal gift for anyone you know.
It will literally make your life easier and its a products like these that Gadget Girl is all about making life easier.
